What To Use To Clean Your Yoga Mat
Friends, after a workout - whether it be at your gym, yoga studio or in your garage - what are you wiping down your mat + equipment with? If you’re like most, you have never really given it much thought. You use the wipes or unmarked spray provided by the facility or the Lysol or Clorox wipes under your sink.
But when you return to use that equipment or mat again, and you press your skin or clothes or face against it, or breathe in deeply from child’s pose: what you sprayed before is likely now on you. Paying attention now?
I know it may be hard to believe but the entire cleaning industry (just like the beauty and personal care industry) is virtually unregulated. Many of the most common cleaning products contain toxic chemicals have been directly linked to acute dangers such as itchy watery eyes, respiratory issues, itchy red skin, burning eyes nose or throat, as well as chronic dangers such as infertility, cancer, hormone disregluation, neurotoxicity, asthma and developmental harm.
Many of us devote a lot of time and energy to moving and strengthening our bodies in the name of health - let’s not expose those same bodies to hormone disrupting chemicals that can get in the way of our goals. At the gym where I train Matt Skelly Training and at my home we use SQUEAK NamaSpray for our yoga mats and SQUEAK All Perp + Tea Tree for other workout surfaces like weights, benches, etc. to keep our space sanitary while keeping toxic ingredients at bay. Use Code POPOFHEALTH to receive 15% OFF all orders at www.getsqueakywithus.com
Some chemicals to stay away from are:
chlorine bleach (if ammonia and chlorine bleach are accidentally mixed together, they create dangerous chloramine gas)
Have you given much thought to what you wipe your mat down with? If you haven’t, and are ready to swap in a safer option you can grab the SQUEAK ALL PERP + TEA TREE and our other favorites for 15% OFF just for being a member of the pop of health community using code POPOFHEALTH.
